About the DHS Bullpen Club
What the Bullpen Club does:
The baseball team, as well as the majority of other sports, receives funding from the school district. However, many times the amount received is not enough to adequately cover all of the expenses required to build a successful and productive program (especially at a new school). So the baseball team has a group of a dedicated volunteers working to support the program. These volunteers financially and physically assist the program in order for it to be the best it can be. This group of people is called the Dawson Bullpen Club (a.k.a. “The Baseball Booster Club”).
The Booster Club meets during the school year to discuss upcoming schedules, fundraisers, donations, concessions, capital improvement projects, and other ways to help keep the program going.
The basic mission of the Booster Club is to raise money and support the baseball program.
The funds that the booster club receives are allocated towards the baseball team’s needs, which include supplies, equipment, uniforms and field maintenance, etc.
The following are a few examples of the projects that the Booster Club has funded and supported to date:
- The establishment of an annual baseball scholarship fund for graduating Dawson baseball players.
- Installation of the scoreboard.
- Installation of the “halo kit” around home plate.
- Installation of a practice infield.
- The purchase of new uniforms for all of the teams.
- The funding of annual events such as the season opening banquet and year end awards banquet
In the 2011 – 2012 school year, there will be much more to do. The program is in need of covered and lighted batting cages, padding along the wall behind home plate, and many other projects.
